Greenspace Exposure and Obsessive-Compulsive Behaviors in Schoolchildren

Green environments are associated with improved child brain development and mental health. We study cross-sectionally the association of availability greenspace at home school obsessive-compulsive behaviors (OCB) in primary schoolchildren. Greenspace tree cover surrounding 378 children aged 9 to 10 Barcelona (Spain) were characterized using satellite-based indices [Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), Modified Soil Adjusted (MSAVI), Continuous Field (VCF)] across buffers 100, 300, 500 m, distance nearest green space. OCB was assessed Spence Children’s Anxiety Scale-Parent version. Linear mixed effects models showed that school, but not home, significantly related a reduction buffers, benefits for girls also graduate parents. Higher around might be less behavior schoolchildren, especially those higher socioeconomic status.
